Bank of Ireland U16 Conference 2 - Killarney RFC 17 Rugbaí Chorca Dhuibhne 10
Our U16s opened the new season with a hard fought win over Corca Dhuibhne in tough rainy and windy conditions.
Killarney survived early pressure from RCD and were looked sure to score when the final pass was intercepted and Corca Dhuibhne's outside centre raced the length of the field for the opening score. Corca Dhuibhne added the conversion from in front of the posts.
Killarney shrugged off the setback, got back down the field to force a 5m scrum. A smart move had Liam McCarthy scoring in the corner. The difficult conversion was narrowly missed. The wind and rain made passing and catching difficult and neither team managed to score in the remainder of the 1st half. Corca Dhuibhne led 7-5 at half time.
Corca Dhuibhne extended their lead with a penalty early in the second half but their lead remained a single score. An apparent try by Mikey Moroney was chalked off for double movement but the relief was short lived for Corca Dhuibhne as McCarthy scored a second try close to the posts - allowing Cathal Sugrue an easy conversion to put Killarney in the lead for the first time.
With a narrow 12-10 lead Killarney sought the comfort of the next score which finally came as a good passing move saw Luke Mccan score in the corner to push the lead out to 17-10.
Killarney saw out the rest of the game to start the season with a big win.
