Bank of Ireland U18.5 Conference 2 - Killarney RFC 20 Killorglin / Iveragh Eagles 12
Our U18.5s opened the new season with a hard fought win over the combined might of Killorglin and Iveragh Eagles.
Killorglin-Iveragh applied the early pressure and spent a good amount of time camped in the Killarney half, but it was Killarney who opened the scoring when a crisp passing move saw Mark Kennelly cross the line. His brother Finn Kennelly converted from an awkward angle to put Killarney 7-0 ahead. Killarney increased their lead with a try in corner form Shane O'Sullivan, and led 12-0 at half time.
Killorglin-Iveragh came back into the game in the 2nd half as the wind and rain subsided, and an early score through a try. Killarney struck back with their third try through Alex O'Leary to lead 17-5. Killorglin-Iveragh again responded with a converted try to reduce the lead to 17-12. Killarney then took advantage of a penalty to opt for the kick and extend their lead beyond a converted try.
Despite a good while remaining , Killorglin-Iveragh couldn't close the gap and Killarney held on to their lead to record a satisfying win.
