U16 Kanturk 3 Killarney 27 - Report from Seamus Grealy
K.R.F.C. U/16 travelled to Kanturk on Sunday 4th November and secured their 4th successive victory in the Munster Conference 2 League.
Both sides started sluggishly and early Kanturk pressure resulted in a converted penalty from the 22 metre line. Gradually Killarney got their running game together and after 16 minutes Thomas Clifford streaked over in the left corner flowing a slick passing movement. Once in gear Killarney kicked on and following line breaking attacking play Dan Twomey sent powerful Cormac Rowe away to score in the right corner.
Killarney enjoyed most of the posession and territory and pressure eventually yielded a try after Donnchadh Grealy's one handed pass sent Liam Randles in under the post - the conversion followed. Half time score 17-3 to the visitors.
Victory was secured shortly after half time when scrum half Peter Walsh barged over from close range. The final score of the game was secured by impressive Bailey O'Sullivan who finished off a powerful Killarney drive. Kanturk battled bravely until the finish and Killarney counter-attacked impressively and would have added to their total except for uncharacteristic handling errors.
Impressive on the day for Killarney were forwards John McCarthy and Bailey O Sullivan whose tackling was imperious. James Kennelly caught the eye from full back with his counter attacking. Donnchadh Grealy's passing was slick and the speed of Dan Twomey and Thomas Clifford always threatened. Younger members of the team Cormac Rowe and Shane McAllister again contributed immensely.
Team on the day were:
- Front row Robert Nealon, Bailey O'Sullivan and Alan Cronin.
- Second Row Shane McAllister and Cormac Rowe.
- Back Row Brendan O'Donoghue, John McCarthy, Padraig Talbot.
- Backline Peter Walsh, Donnchadh Grealy, Denis Koyun, Liam Randles, Thomas Clifford, Dan Twoney, James Kennelly.
- Replacements who also played a vital role were Mike O'Donoghue, Darren Cronin and Cengizhan Koyun.
