The increasing professionalisation of sport, even at amateur level, means that most teams now have seasoned strength and conditioning coaches in the backroom team. Killarney Rugby are delighted to have the support of Brian Foley of Activate on Ballycasheen Road. Brian developed a fantastic pre-season programme for the seniors designed to prioritise and develop speed and explosive strength as these qualities can be too taxing and difficult to develop adequately in-season.

During in-season training, it is possible to make gains in physical and technical attribute, but this must be done in a measured and phased approach. The goal in-season is to maintain and enhance those qualities developed during the pre-season but more importantly to be fresh and available for games at the weekends. Laying a solid foundation in pre-season means that strength and conditioning levels are appropriate to further enhance skills, and other physical attributes during the season.

With that in mind, Brian has very kindly put together a guide to help both youths and seniors navigate their way through the season in the best possible condition.
