Our Killarney under 16 girls are taking on Bruff in the Munster league semifinal on Sunday next the 9th of January at 12.30pm in Killarney.
The girls are unbeaten in the league and playing a fantastic brand of running rugby. We had nine girls recently who went for a Munster trial game and all nine of them advanced to the next stage.
It would be great to get some local people out to support the girls on Sunday. It’s not often that any rugby team from Kerry get down to the last four in the province.
There is amazing work being done in Killarney RFC and we are now fielding girls teams in U14s, u16s and also U18s levels.
The rugby philosophy of both coaches Diarmuid O’Malley and Josh Whelan is to play heads up rugby and run the ball as opposed to kicking the ball away to the opposition and to really play to the running and handling strengths of this team.
Our numbers are growing week on week and it’s because of the brand of rugby we are playing and it’s enjoyable to play, we have massive competition obviously in a place like Kerry with football but now young girls are seeing rugby as an option for them with the growing numbers we are turning out with our U14s/u16s and our U18s teams.
There is a huge amount of work being done at provincial level in the women’s game at grass roots level and with a province like Munster who have really bought into their development pathway for these young girls and continues to be done and there is lots of opportunity for these girls in Ireland and further a field.
It would be great to get the full support of the club and the town to support the girls next Sunday on what promises to be a great game.
Kick off at Aghadoe is 12:30pm - All Welcome!
