U14 West Munster Cup semifinal - Killarney RFC 5 Listowel RFC 5 (Killarney win - scored first try)
The U14 Red squad narrowly qualified for the U14 West Munster final on Saturday 26th February by virtue of scoring the first try in a drawn game vs Listowel.
A blustery day made passing, handling, and kicking difficult for both sides. Killarney opened brightly and kept Listowel pinned in their own half for much of the first half. A few chances were spurned before Killarney Red opened the scoring with a blind side drive from No8 Mark Brosnan from a 5 metre scrum. Unknown to all of us - this was the significant moment of the match. The conversion was missed.
With the wind blowing diagonally across the field, Listowel were to exert pressure in the 2nd half in much the same that Killarney had in the first. Eventually, they scored in the same corner as Killarney's first half try. Again the difficult angle and breeze meant the conversion was missed. At 5-all each team sought a winning score, but neither side could break through.
Time expired with no further score and with no extra time playable - we sought the rule book. As both teams had scored same number of tries, the tie break went to the team that scored first - that was Red.
Commiserations to Listowel for a good game - if we had exited in the same way we would have been very disappointed. It was a tough way to go out.
For the Red squad, onwards to a final against either Corca Dhuibhne or Tralee on 12th March.
