IMART 22 - International Mixed Ability Rugby Tournament
The International Mixed Ability Rugby Tournament runs from 5th to 10th June in Musgrave Park. The tournament is for mixed ability adult teams representing their clubs from all corners of the world. Sundays Well RFC are the host club for this 3rd edition of the mixed ability world cup - fitting because Sundayโs Well were the pioneers of this form of the game in Ireland.
The concept of mixed ability is "exactly what it says on the tin" - people of all abilities playing the game of rugby with minor adaptions such as uncontested scrums (that even happens at the top level to!!). Players are not graded by ability or disability - they are teammates and just another team in a club. It is real sporting inclusion in action which needs to be seen to be believed.
Tickets are free and available through e 82 games of rugby to feast on. The competition opens on Sunday 5th with an Olympic style opening ceremony from 7pm in Musgrave Park.
Monday, Tuesday are pool game days and Thursday, Friday is knock out and finals with a closing party at the end to send all on their way.
If you can spread the word among your section that tickets are free and available through www.imartworldcup.org for the opening ceremony and all games.
To put this in perspective this is the largest inclusive sporting event in Europe this year and its happening in Cork. We have a small hard-working team on this to make it a world class event to showcase the best that Munster grassroots clubs can do. If you are in a position to help with the success of this event through any means you can, be it financial or giving of your time it would be greatly appreciated.
